In 2002 sports journalist and TV presenter/producer Sandro Micallef thought of the idea to promote achievement within Maltese football. This idea flourished to the extent that today Events Services holds the annual prestigious Malta Football Awards. It is an event much awaited by football clubs, footballers, coaches, journalists and the general public. The prestige of this event includes top Maltese entertainment besides the actual awards. This makes it one of Malta’s premiere TV shows. It is screened LIVE on Melita Sports with an estimated TV audience of 40,000.
Since the first edition, this event has attracted companies such as Vodafone Malta, General Soft Drinks, Maltacom, Maltco Lotteries Ltd, Sign It and Melita Cable amongst others.
Their support is a testimonial that the Malta Football Awards is now an established event in the local sports calendar making it a showcase of great coverage to the above mentioned partners
Each year, the presentation of the awards is determined following voting by stakeholders in the football scene including 10 premier club presidents, 10 premier division coaches, 10 premier division captains and sports journalists. The voting system is a fair and rigorous one and is administered by a notary public.
Some of the categories being contested yearly are: ,Best Maltese Player, Best Foreign Player, Best Goalkeeper, Most promising youngster, Best Striker and Best Midfielder

The Malta Football Awards will be once again the main local sports attraction during summer.
These awards will be given extensive coverage on all print and broadcast media during the months prior to the event.
